Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses different types of long, flowing strokes to reduce pain and joint stiffness, increase circulation and relax the body. These strokes can include effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.

At Massage Therapy of Oak Park, Swedish massage provides a soothing experience that relaxes muscles, improves circulation, relieves achy joints and washes away stress. We employ firm, but gentle, pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create an overall sense of wellbeing.

Benefits of Swedish Massage

The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the flow of oxygen in the blood while releasing toxins from the muscles. As such, Massage Therapy of Oak Park has partnered with physical and occupational therapists to help those suffering from sports injuries, arthritis and the effects of automobile accidents. We utilize Swedish massage to:

  • Speed recovery time from muscle strains

  • Increase circulation

  • Stretch ligaments, tendons and muscles

  • Trigger the relaxation response

  • Support a body’s natural healing process

  • Relieve stress
